Street Photo Analysis: Behind the Photo - No12 Sweet Tooth
| Sweet Tooth: Oxford Circus, Central London |
A look behind this photo "Sweet Tooth", the when, the where and the how. This was popular on my old Instagram (don't use Insta these days) and was taken a couple of years ago on a beautiful summers day in Central London.
Nice weather and some attractive women does not always mean a good photo, so lets take a closer look and see if it as any good and if so....WHY?
For the Gear Heads
Camera: Nikon S9100
Lens: 25-450 zoom
Date taken: 22 Aug 2023
Time: 14:25
Weather: Wall to wall sunshine
What's going on....if anything?
A photo with a lot going on? The original intention was just to capture this woman walking towards me at Oxford Circus and call it "Lollipop" and JOB DONE. Little did I realise there was a lot more going on after a second viewing back home We have two brunettes one with a lollipop and the other sucking on a McD drink of some description probably also sugary in nature. Hence the title "Sweet Tooth". The connection I think makes this photo?
It has some depth to it as in things going on in the background, it certainly has an urban street vibe. there is plenty of urban content and context and this photo you can see it definitely was taken in London. The two girls are roughly on the rule of thirds on either side which helps to give the photo a balanced feel.
The woman to the right near the front adds a third interest, who also happens to be brunette.
Beyond that, it's just a street scene with a couple of attractive brunettes but the "Sweet" connection makes the photo!
The photo was taken in combine harvester mode? That is a whole other blog post for a future date?
My Rating?
Take the two central characters out of the frame and it just ends up as a random street scene in Central London with not much going on. A photo anybody could take.Add the two brunettes with that SWEET connection and now we're talking. Add the fact that it really is an undisturbed scene and with nothing posed and what we have here is a Pure Street Photo.
It's not a masterpiece, it will not win any awards.....but it works and works well. A nano second moment, missed by the vast majority of people on that day, but captured by this street photographer to be cherished for years to come.
That..... for me is what it is all about. My rating...a firm 8/10 and I love it!
